(a) Calculate the tension in the string when the ball is at the top of its path.

g be the acceleration due to gravity,
v be the uniform rate of rotation,
T be the tension in the string,
r be the radius of the circle.
(a)
T + mg = mv^2 / r
T = m(v^2 / r - g)
= 0.300(4.25^2 / 0.65 - 9.81)
= 5.39 N to 3sf.
(b)
T - mg = mv^2 / r
T = m(v^2 / r + g)
= 0.300(4.25^2 / 0.65 + 9.81)
= 11.3 N to 3sf.
